Identites

Produce a work in three stages: pre-production, production, post-production. Carefully plan and create your own special effects, atmosphere, characters and spaces with lighting, sculptural elements and innovative camera work. Plan shots carefully, do multiple takes, collect as much footage as possible. Use Final Cut Pro to edit your material into a 3-5 minute video. This can be narrative or exist as an abstract visual experience. Create an audio track entirely from the linked ambient sound.

I had already done a lot of thinking about wanting to do some special effects experimentation. I desired to create a piece dealing with the different identities that one person may choose to accompany. I wanted to have the same person come into the shot several times in the same shot yet with different costumes on each time. This required tons of thinking within preproduction of timing, placement, and lighting. This also required even more effort in post-production work. Instead of green screening and extracting the green, I decided it shoot it with three cameras and compile it in post. I then did vector painting (painting what you want to keep, in each frame of video: 29.97 frames per second and 5 minutes to paint up: ouch) in After Effects. It was a learning experience.

This piece was created in: Video 1 and Cyberpower (spring semester)
